In our next Mathematics Colloquium, Professor Ian Turner from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) will be presenting his talk, entitled "Efficient Numerical Methods for Simulating Transport in Heterogeneous Porous Media."

An overview of the important role that Krylov subspace methods play in the computational modelling of flow in heterogeneous, porous mediawill be presented. Specific examples are exhibited for the solution of the nonlinear macroscopic conservation laws, along with the novel computational techniques used for simulating the anomalous diffusion evident at the microscale. Case studies for the drying of Australian wood species are used to elucidate the effectiveness of the methods.

Coffee and tea will be served in the maths tearoom (67-704) after the talk.
