Australia’s National Measurement Institute (NMI) Chief Executive Officer and Chief Metrologist Dr Bruce Warrington has announced the recipients of the Barry Inglis Medal and NMI Prize. These awards are held annually and recognise significant contributions to measurement science, research and leadership.

The Barry Inglis Medal was awarded to Professor Warwick Bowen, Director of the UQ Precision Sensing Initiative in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Queensland (UQ). It recognised his two-decade career in precision and quantum measurement. Over that time, he and the team in his laboratory have contributed to a broad range of areas within this field, from the fundamentals of quantum measurements, to the frontiers of biomedical imaging and aerospace measurement technologies. The work for which the Barry Inglis Medal was awarded has received significant support from industry partners such as Lockheed Martin, Orica and NASA, from the Australian Research Council, and from international agencies including the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and Army Research Office (ARO).
