Title: More than just the numbers: the value-add of qualitative research in the evaluation of the COVIDSafe app

YouTube Recording

Abstract: Mobile phone-based digital proximity tracing applications (apps) were rolled out in many countries early in the COVID-19 pandemic to enhance contact tracing. Little was known about their real-world effectiveness. We undertook a mixed method evaluation of the COVIDSafe app in NSW. This comprised of a prospective quantitative study of that measured the number of infections identified by the app that were not identified by other contact tracing methods, and qualitative interviews with contact tracing staff who were incorporating the app into their work practice and those trained in the use of the app who had not used in in practice.

This presentation will briefly summarise the result of both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the study. It will focus on the qualitative findings and what they added to developing a thorough understanding of problems identified with the app.

About AI4PAN Artificial Intelligence for Pandemics Seminar Series centred at UQ

Welcome to AI4PAN, the Artificial Intelligence for Pandemics group centered at The University of Queensland (UQ). The group's focus is the application of data science, machine learning, statistical learning, applied mathematics, computation, and other "artificial intelligence" techniques for managing pandemics both at the epidemic and clinical level.
