Photonic quantum computing: from academia to industry
Speaker: Dr Devin Smith
Affiliation: Quix Quantum
Abstract
In this talk I will present research and development from QuiX Quantum toward both near-term and longer-term quantum computing with photonics. QuiX has fabricated world-leading optical interferometers/quantum photonic processors, and is enabling results in the scientific domain. We are also working towards full fault-tolerant universal quantum computers, one component at a time.
I will also discuss my personal background, and talk about how moving to industry can still be within the broader umbrella of research or your area of interest: it is *not* the case that the only way to succeed is to become a professor.
Biography
Devin was originally a researcher here at UQ but is now the CTO at Quix Quantum.
About Physics Seminars
The weekly Physics Seminar series focuses on a broad range of physics research within SMP, along with frequent presentations from visiting researchers. Seminars are usually scheduled for 1.00pm on Tuesdays.
The talks are typically more specialised than a colloquium but are often attended by staff and PhD students across a broad range of areas. Speakers are thus encouraged to include introductory material in the talks.
All SMP researchers and HDR students are encouraged to speak. Please email Lewis Williamson to register your interest.
The seminars are open so there is no need to register your attendance.
