Abstract

The last few decades have seen several developments which begin to foreshadow an emerging picture of the relationship between the deformations and moduli of complex manifolds and the curvature of the parameter and total space of the deformation.  In this talk, we will describe this rich and vibrant picture together with a discussion of open problems and prospective applications, including the Hopf problem concerning the existence of a metric of positive sectional curvature on the product of two spheres.

About Pure mathematics seminars

We present regular seminars on a range of pure mathematics interests. Students, staff and visitors to UQ are welcome to attend, and to suggest speakers and topics.

Seminars are usually held on Tuesdays from 2 to 3pm.

Talks comprise 45 minutes of speaking time plus five minutes for questions and discussion.

Information for speakers

Researchers in all pure mathematics fields attend our seminars, so please aim your presentation at a general mathematical audience.
