Abstract

We introduce an elementary universal principle for smooth manifolds that allows us to establish several fundamental results easily: The Whitney Embedding Theorem and from that transversality, the de Rham isomorphism theorem, Poincaré Duality, Künneth’s theorem and the Hirsch-Leray theorem for suitable fibrations. The advantage of the principle is that it avoids using “good covers” and spectral sequences.
