This project aims to develop a probabilistic model of neuron firing, a crucial process when neurons transmit signals through the body. Neuron firing is triggered when the membrane potential reaches the so-called threshold potential. The objective is to introduce the first-passage analysis in the stochastic process theory to the study of neuron firing. We accomplish this by modelling the membrane potential in terms of a suitable stochastic process and the neuron firing event when the process crosses a threshold. Both analytical and numerical methods will be pursued.
