Abstract

I will begin by discussing (finite and affine) Weyl groups and Hecke algebras, focusing on the examples of the symmetric group and the special linear group. In these cases much of the structure is controlled by Coxeter combinatorics. I will then shift attention to Iwahori-Hecke algebras of p-adic loop groups, which are closely related to double affine Hecke algebras. Here the analogue of Coxeter combinatorics is still mysterious, so I will explain what is known and what is not.
