Non-Kahler Degenerations of Calabi-Yau Threefolds
Speaker: Professor Sebastien Picard
Affiliation: University of British Columbia
Abstract
It was proposed in the works of Clemens, Reid, Friedman to connect Calabi-Yau threefolds with different topologies by a process which degenerates 2-cycles and introduces new 3-cycles. This operation may produce a non-Kahler complex manifold with trivial canonical bundle. In this talk, we will discuss the geometrization of this process by special non-Kahler metrics. This is joint work with T.C. Collins and S.-T. Yau.
About Pure mathematics seminars
We present regular seminars on a range of pure mathematics interests. Students, staff and visitors to UQ are welcome to attend, and to suggest speakers and topics.
Seminars are usually held on Tuesdays from 2 to 3pm.
Talks comprise 45 minutes of speaking time plus five minutes for questions and discussion.
Information for speakers
Researchers in all pure mathematics fields attend our seminars, so please aim your presentation at a general mathematical audience.
