Collection points

QMSS staff will meet you one of our three designated meeting points and accompany you back to the point at the end of each day.

Please arrive at a collection point between 8.30am and 8.50am.

Note: This program is non-residential, which means parents/guardians will have to make arrangements for accommodation and for students to get to and from UQ each day. The UQ Accommodation website provides options for students and their parent coming from outside the Brisbane region.

What to bring

  • Pens and pencils
  • Paper
  • Calculator (preferably scientific)
  • Ruler (preferably 30cm clear plastic)
  • Eraser
  • Packed lunch, water and snacks (food outlets will be open on campus but there will be limited time during breaks to access them)

Stay COVID-19 safe

You may attend the event provided: 

  • you are fully vaccinated from 14 February 2022
  • you have not been in close contact with an active COVID-19 case and are required to quarantine
  • you are feeling well and have not had a fever, cough, sore throat, headache, distorted sense of taste, shortness of breath, chills, vomiting or any cold/flu like symptoms within the last 72 hours.

About Queensland Mathematics Summer School

UQ’s Queensland Mathematics Summer School (QMSS) introduces Year 10 students to the beauty of advanced mathematical ideas and new ways of thinking.

Hosted by UQ’s School of Mathematics and Physics each year, this multi-day non-residential program is open to talented students who are going into Year 11 and have chosen to study Maths Methods and Specialist Maths.

Students commencing Year 11 in 2023 who have chosen to study QCE Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics or IB Mathematics can attend our 2023 event.

What you’ll learn

You’ll delve into the deep, difficult, fun, mysterious, abstract, interconnected and, of course, useful aspects of this fascinating subject.

  • Explore and immerse yourself in mathematics: discuss contemporary topics, including artificial intelligence, data science, models on the spread of disease and more through interactive lectures, tutorials and seminars.
  • Develop and extend your mathematical skills in problem solving, communication, analysis and reasoning.
  • Learn from mathematicians who are passionate about their subject – from globally renowned researchers to experts in mathematical education, and current students, who are all keen to share their experience and knowledge.
  • Make friends with students from around the state and discover how much fun it is to be around people who are passionate about mathematics.
