Exploring the Restless Sky: Black Holes, Jets, and Cosmic Collisions

Abstract
The night sky is very dynamic. Thanks to repeated observations with sensitive telescopes, we are able to discover new sources that become bright and then fade away forever, which we call “transients”. In this talk, I will give an overview of some of the most energetic transients, including the disruption of stars by massive black holes (which can launch relativistic jets!), supernovae, and the mergers of dense compact objects. I will present results of our observations, which revealed new insights into black-hole powered sources, and prospects for the science of relativistic explosions with new world-class telescopes - including Vera C. Rubin Observatory and Argus Array - that are set to revolutionize astronomy as we know it.
