Abstract

Thirty-one years after the discovery of the first exoplanet, we find that the majority of the known exoplanets orbit their host stars closer than any planet in the Solar system. How did these close-in planets reach their present-day orbit, and how does their demographic depend on their host stars? With the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) beginning its 9th year of survey, we begin to uncover new clues to these questions via statistical studies and detailed follow-up of individual systems. While TESS alone surveys the broader exoplanet population in the Solar Neighborhood, JWST provides detailed atmospheric views of some of the most interesting planets discovered by TESS. In this talk, I'll review recent observational constraints of planet formation and evolutions emerging from TESS's statistical power and highlight exciting JWST atmospheric observations of individual TESS planets pinpointing their formation pathways.
