Supervisor: Professor Anthony Richardson. Size spectrum models represent marine ecosystems from plankton to fish and include processes such as climate change and fishing. They are based on systems of partial differential equations and are often unstable, with waves propagating through the model. We are looking for a strong applied or theoretical mathematics student to perform a stability analysis on a size spectrum model, finding the parameter space where the model is stable, and reconfiguring the model to improve stability. This is part of an Australian Research Council Discovery Project, and travel to a conference in Australia will be supported as part of the project. Contact Professor Anthony J. Richardson for more information.
