We have strong links with government and industry partners, and many of our postgraduate students work with researchers from these institutions to help solve applied resource management problems.

We are co-funded by UQ and the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF), which promotes profitable primary industries for Queensland.

We collaborate with DAF colleagues on a number of projects and provide assistance and guidance in mathematical fishery assessments and the development of new mathematical approaches for fishery assessment.

We also receive funding, via research grants or collaborations, from the Australian Research Council and the CSIRO.

Australian Water and Environmental Research Alliance

Together with water and environmental science colleagues from Griffith University, we form the Australian Water and Environmental Research Alliance (AWERA).

Our aim is to create a national hub for water and environmental sciences research and training, and to provide information to government, industry and community organisations.

Key research themes include:

  • ecosystem services
  • sustainable water resources
  • human impacts on catchment environments
  • catchment stressors and management
  • coastal resilience and recovery
  • port partnership.
